obedience.

"[I]t is only the person dwelling in isolation who is not forced to respond with defiance or submission, to the commands of others."

So not true. One can live amongst others and still be free from submission. He may be the one giving the orders to others, yet there will always be the few who remain aloof.
He may be responding to nature or even G-d but that’s not because he resides with people.

i happen to be with ya mate. unless we open up 'submission' and 'defiance' to be inclusive of all synonyms...

dare i disagree?
"defiance or submission to commands of others": if there are others there will be commands of others. either give in or dont, but either way is a response.
aloof-ness is a passive form of defiance.

Indeed Chana, commands of others there will be. Now submission means to give in to surrender to others. Why then do you say that by not giving it is in a way a response?

not giving who, what? and what, when? and when, how?

Sorry. "Not giving in"

"respond with DEFIANCE or submission" katriel, you seem to have missed the other option, to respond with defiance - as in to challenge, disobey, disregard... or just plain not give in.

either you listen or you dont, jah? both are responses.
